Here goes nothing....

So I've been thinking about starting a blog for quite some time now. I've procrastinated because I'm not too great with technical stuff. Can I knit? Check? Can I sew a formal or and Elizabethan costume? Check. Make a wedding cake? Yup. Pretty much anything right-brained? Got it. I was hoping to find some sort of blogging for dummies book out there but I've finally decided to just wing it.

This blog is mainly going to be a way for me to stay busy and sane with 6 kids, 3 dogs and 4 cats. Yes, you heard right. Oh yeah, I also have to do all of this while my dearest is deployed. I also have to do this while on the rebound from Thyroid Cancer and Adrenal Disease. I do, of course, realize that some people reading this may have to pick their jaws up off the ground. Others will wonder why I'm bothering or if I'm on drugs. Why yes I am-but only those prescribed by my endocronologist.

When I found out that I was cancer-free I decided to attempt an "I CAN DO THIS!!!" attitude to multiple areas of my life. Then I found out my husband was going to Afghanistan. For a year. And he has training for 5 solid months clear across the country. But I forgot to mention the latest news... we're moving to a new house during all of this. I may be past help, but just for kicks I'm going to see if I can stay sane during all of this. Here's my plan:

*Eat mass amounts of chocolate, dark only (it's full of anti-oxidants, right?) Plus It has a definite calming effect.

* Knit anything and everything as fast as possible in an attempt to lower my blood pressure. Knitting has also been proven to be just as great as a session on the couch with a shrink. I really don't want to pay for a shrink-- that would cut into my yarn budget.

*I'm also planning on totally re-doing my personal redecorating style as I move over to my new house this Spring. No more of the 'Early Halloween' aka. 'college dorm room/whatever is cheap and the kids won't ruin' style. This time I'm going to have fun painting, decorating and starting tons of DIY projects that I may or may not complete.

*Unfortunately for dearest husband (to be refered to as 'dh' in future), staying sane will also require occasional, or perhaps more often than that, retail therapy.

Today begins my journey.....

  2. I love this blog! You have such a beautiful outlook on life, Jennifer! Thanks so much for sharing. I admire you how you handle everything so well while your husband is deployed. Also, I am so happy to hear that your health is improved. My husband also regularly sees an endocrinologist for his Addison's disease, so I try to keep his stress levels down as much as possible too. :) Best wishes and can't wait to read more!

  5. Nony, we tried your chicken teriyaki recipe and it was a hit! What a relief to find a veg-packed dinner the kids will actually eat. Cheers!
